Buyer’s Remorse

I’m suffering from buyer’s remorse. I finally bought my grad dress and shoes today. I’ve spent countless of hours of looking at the Mango and Zara catalogues and browsing the racks of Rustan’s, Chocolate, Loalde, Debenhams, Morgan, etc. Originally, I wanted something like this:

Lhuillier black dress

It’s a Monique Lhuillier dress. Asa pa ako, hehehe. But I thought, maybe I could have it copied. It looks simple but classy and elegant. But I was discouraged by Jane’s argument that the dressmaker might screw it up, and I’d end up paying a huge amount of money for a half-baked dress. Point taken.

Then I saw LiLo’s polka-dot dress:

LiLo's polka dots dress

So cute huh? Although I wanted the length to be just a little bit below the knee. I found a pretty polka-dotted dress in Sinequanone. It’s a sheer, button up dress that needs a black knee-length camisole:

Too casual for grad though, I think. (note: It’s not supposed to plunge. She just left the darned thing unbuttoned.) Plus, Jane just told me that her emergency dress (the dress her mom got her in case she wouldn’t find anything she liked at the stores) was a polka-dotty thing. Scratch this dress then. Maybe I’ll just go back for it and wear it to the office.

Zara’s online catalogue had only a couple of sundresses, so I figured I’d visit their stores to see what was actually in stock. Now, I really hate shopping. I don’t mind window shopping, and then finding something cute and comfy and purchasing it, but I hate shopping when I have to. I hate it when I have to find that pair of office shoes, or that new suit for work. It’s tedious and stressful. I feel so pressured to because of time and need.

Jane and I trekked to the Zara stores in Powerplant Mall and in Glorietta in search of  found a chocolate brown sundress that’s not too informal and a black baby doll dress. Bad news: the smallest size for the black baby doll dress looks like a tent on me. My boobs literally fell out of the neckline. I made mental note of the brown sundress and went on to peruse Mango’s aisles.

I had previously browsed Mango’s site and found these pretty little numbers (sans red cardi and belt on the first one):

The local stores didn’t have the first 2 yet last Friday, so I was choosing between the 3rd and the 4th. They cost around 6-8k each. Ugh. I was thinking of spending something between 3k-5k for the dress. I’m not really into dresses. If I had to buy a dress, I’d buy an officey one. Like those button down shirt dresses in cotton.

We found other a black dress in Loalde that had a good cut, but had these hideous beads. Then Jane found this pretty green and black dress in Tango, and it was only 1k+. Her mom thought it was too casual though. We went to Shang last Saturday and I saw a tube dress from Tyler. No, not Richard Tyler. It’s a local brand that has branches in Glorietta, Rustan’s Shang, and Powerplant Mall daw. It’s knee length, in an old rose color, with a black belt/ribbon at the waist. I think it’s still on display at the Shang branch. It’s cheap pa, barely 3k. The bust area was a bit loose, but the saleslady told me that they have this tie-up with Alterations Plus, so I could have it fixed there.

So yesterday, I brought my lola and my discerning aunt to decide which dress to get. They though that the 3rd Mango dress looked too much like underwear (it’s beautiful though, the picture doesn’t do it justice), and that the the 4th one looked like a daster (is this the way it’s spelled?) on me. Lol, thank you relatives for all your moral support. My lola was in favor of this green and cream K & Company dress that had a sheer Chinese collar. The toga’s a V-neck thing though, so anything with a collar or a halter style’s out. My aunt’s main opinion was not to wear plain black. We finally settled on the Tyler dress. Aside from altering the bust part, I asked the dressmaker to add straps to it. I’m not a fan of tubes, flat chest and all. I was just relieved that the whole ordeal was over.

Then we went to Rockwell, and out of sheer curiosity, I peeked inside Mango. Omg, the 1st Mango dress, the one I was crushing on, was THERE! It wasn’t there the day before! I really wanted it, but no, I’ve already bought a dress! To torture myself further, I tried it on. It fit like a glove. My lola mus have seen the longing and regret on my face cause she bought it for me. Just in case daw someone else in my graduating class got the Tyler dress, I’ll have a spare to wear. There’s this white with black polka dots number that’s gorgeous too. Lola originally wanted to get it for me, but even the smallest size was too big in the bust area. Sigh. Jane, it has your name on it. Go get it with the knitted bolero. It’s a dream.

But now I kind of regret getting the Mango dress. Sigh. I’ve decided to wear the Tyler dress, and I have a couple of dresses I can use in case Murphy’s happens and someone else wears the same frock. 6k would’ve bought me a lot of books, and maybe even more RAM for the desktop (1G is not enough anymore, hehehe). Sigh. Ugh, maybe I’ll sell the dress on ebay or something.
