Weekend bliss.

Mik and I saw The Prestige last Saturday, thanks to Lisa’s recommendation. It’s the best film of the year so far for me. The pacing was better than most suspense thrillers out there. Those addicted to mysteries will probably be able to guess the last 30 minutes of the film though. The best twist of the year (so far) still belongs to The Lady in the Water’s “Guardian”. :D

We went to the SM Mall of Asia last Sunday to try out Full Star, a restaurant that supposedly serves authentic Singaporean Hainanese Chicken Rice. Nalula ako sa MoA. It was freaking huge, and it didn’t help that Henry Sy hired the same interior designer who does all his other SM malls. Ugly shades of blue for walls and shiny yet dirty floors. The tiles used for the floor were the type that makes dirt obvious. It wasn’t aesthetically pleasing at all. Anyway, as you all know, I have nil sense of direction, so Mik used his map reading prowess (or whatever) to locate Full Star and Shepherd’s Staff. If I were a part of MoA’s marketing campaign, I would print out little maps/floor plan brochures and give them away to shoppers. I’d even plant people at all of my other malls and give away the maps. It would encourage other people to drop by more often.

So anyway, we found Full Star. They have 2 varieties of Hainanese Chicken Rice: white chicken and roasted chicken. Omg the white chicken is sooo yummy. It’s full of flavor and it has this aftertaste that leaves you wanting more. They serve a set that’s good for 1 person for Php150, and a bigger serving for Php350. If you order extra rice, get the chicken rice, which is cooked with the same herbs and spices used with the chicken.

And a screenie of us in the resto:

Did I just use the term “screenie”? @_@

After Full Star, we went to Shepherd’s Staff to try out Sebastian’s Cookie Dough ice cream. Alas, it was out of stock! Boo! We went back to the map to look for Chocolat and for the bookstores (since nothing comforts me like a new book purchase), and I found Cold Rock listed on the directory of shops. Hurrah! We never got around to going to Cold Rock though. We stopped by Fully Booked, where I acquired Lucifer 10: Morningstar, and then headed over to Chocolat to try their Classic Dark chocolate cake. The icing was heaven, the rest, nothing spectacular. We didn’t get a picture of it, sorry. By this time, we were tired and sleepy (Hmm, bakit kaya? >:D), so we decided to haul ass home. We actually fell asleep in the cab, lol. Mik spent the night again. It’s heaven to sleep and then wake up in his arms. *sigh* Life is good.

The Weekend That Was, Part N

Last Friday night, Nix, fruitandnut, Kris, digitalanomaly and I finally got together. I think the last time we were all together was graduation, when we went to Redbox and I got pissed off towards the end because someone gatecrashed and hogged the freaking mic! /ho

Kris and I met up at the condo at around 9PM, and we waited for Janey to sneak away from work. Kris hasn’t changed a bit. I’m glad of it. I know I used to get pissed at his cavalier attitude, but looking at it now, I’m glad he’s enjoying his life to the fullest. I’m glad that he isn’t a miser or a cynic, and that he is able to derive happiness from the simplest things in life (namely beer, beer, and more beer). He told me to invite dontcallmedude. And one of the most touching gestures of the night came from him. He told Mik that he was already part of our family. Okay so he was drunk, but still. Kris isn’t known for sentimental thoughts. This is probably the 4th time he’s been senti since I’ve known him. And we’ve been friends for 4 years now. Nix came from a dinner with his sister, Aithne. He has 12 units of teaching this term. malvia, you might get him as a teacher since you’re in SoftEng. Student’s comment on the Teacher’s Evaluation Form: Parang Sir Mitch kung magturo. The ultimate compliment a teacher can get from a student. I’m really proud of my friend. Mog was in UP earlier and we thought he wouldn’t make it, but he texted to say he was on his way. We were complete! Mog sang his trademark This Guy’s In Love With You, Pare, and a bunch of other songs with this other dude from another table who had a good voice. And yes, Mog, this entry is doubly filtered. :D

I had a really great time, even if we didn’t get to sing the songs we wanted because the place was just packed. We got to sing Buttercup though. =) I had 2 margaritas. Or was it 3? Some beer, and a Vodka Ice. Sarap. While Janey and I were lined up outside the ladies’ room, this girl unintentionally (I think) cut in in front of us. So Nix, in all his drunken glory, started making parinig in this really loud voice that hello, there’s a line, dude. I think he said “There’s a fucking line.” The girl turned out to be just 15 years old and felt harrassed by Nix so she told her older sister about it. The sister confronted Nix. The whole thing was resolved somehow and, thanks to Kris, we ended up sharing the table with the girls. Kris was hitting on the 15 year old. Who was fugly. I’m sorry, but they were both fugly. <sheepish grin> But Kris was so drunk, he kept claiming during the ride home that the 15yo was hot. They even took pictures together and exchanged numbers!

The next day, Kris admitted that they were fugly. And he complained that 15yo just wouldn’t quit texting him. Hahaha! Ayan kasi! =))

I’ve missed my friends so much. We should go out more often, you guys. Stop being such workaholics! :D

Saturday night was spent with Mik, of course. We had dinner at MyLK. I forget what the acronym means. My Little Kitchen ba? I had this awesome Chicken Pesto pasta. Mmmm, yum. Then Kris, Kuyate, Mik and I watched Crank – a movie with a shitload of adrenaline and testosterone. Kris left right after the movie (to meet up with the 15yo who kept on texting him maybe? >:D), and the 3 of us made tambay at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, talking the (what else?) RO talk.We had brunch at Heaven and Eggs Sunday. We got to sit on the swing! Mmm, I still remember the yummy golden brown waffle and the meatloaf. Now I’m craving. Oooh, there’s a Heaven and Eggs branch here in Eastwood. Hahaha, I really love this pichoor:

Mik and Me, Heaven and Eggs

Then we watched the uber awesome 2nd episode of House S3, Cane and Able. I’m going to watch it again tonight. It’s so damn good. Maybe not quite in the same league as Three Stories, but powerful nonetheless. It was compact storytelling, supported by great performances by the ensemble cast. House and Cuddy get the best verbal repartee.

*Sigh of contentment* It’s illegal to be this happy. I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but I love this feeling of being alive. I’m still amazed at how things turned out. It was so unexpected that I sometimes still can’t believe it myself. Like it’s surreal. Luckily, it stings when I pinch myself. I’m not dreaming. This is real, this is here and now, and I couldn’t be happier or more content.

I love you. <3

Rampqueen’s Tala reminds me of an Urbandub song. Just can’t figure out which one. Hmm, I think it’s that song with the “Mayday, mayday” lyrics. =))
